What can I add?
- Discovery Emergency Cover: Optional emergency and trauma cover with a limit of R400,000 or R1 million, priced per person. See the Emergency Cover page.
What waiting periods apply?
- 1 month general waiting period on all benefits
- 3 months for dentistry and optometry
- 12 months for maternity, HIV and chronic conditions
- A 12 month condition-specific waiting period may apply to any condition that existed before joining
Who can join?
- Main member must be 18 or older; no maximum age for dependants
- Spouse and child dependants can be added; a child is charged adult rates from the month after turning 21
- Cannot be held together with Discovery Health Medical Scheme membership
Which doctors can I use?
Network doctors only. Discovery states it has over 2,000 doctors on the Flexicare network; non-network GP consultations are not covered.
What is not covered?
- Planned hospital admissions (Flexicare covers care outside hospital)
- Non-network GP consultations
- Hospital emergencies, unless Discovery Emergency Cover is added
